The funding also helps to prevent overdoses and promote recovery.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced $281 million in grant funding to support health services across the U.S. These funds will expand access to medications for drug addiction, treatment for mental health and trauma, first responder aid, and relevant research. Grants will also support community access to those in need and social reintegration programs.
SAMHSA Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Christopher Carroll said, “These funding opportunities reflect SAMHSA’s commitment to addressing the full continuum of behavioral health needs — from preventing substance use and suicide to expanding mental health services, trauma-informed care, addiction treatment, reversing overdoses, and recovery support.”
He added, “By investing in evidence-based programs and community partnerships, we can help save lives, improve outcomes, and strengthen the health and well-being of people across the country.”
